Melody stirs emotions in everyone, and in this way music becomes a universal language of emotion that people from different cultures can understand; it allows us to feel an emotional connection with people from different cultures. Emotion, reinforced by dance, brings people even closer together, allowing people of different nationalities to understand one another through the language of dance. In Africa, some tribes still retain the custom of asking, not which clan a person belongs to, but which dance they perform.
Various cartoon characters performed dances from different nations, yet all to a single unifying dance soundtrack. This allowed them to preserve the cultural distinctiveness of their dance movements whilst also enabling them to unite with others and be understood. In today’s multicultural society, there is a great need for people to come together and interact. My project may help people from different cultures not to feel excluded from this process, whilst also allowing them to remain part of their own culture.
